Who has approved the programme?

This research programme has gone through a robust national review process in the UK.

Heartburn Health has been reviewed and approved by the Health Research Authority (HRA) and the National Research Ethics Service (NRES) West Midlands – South Birmingham Research Ethics Committee.

The use of NHS patient data to invite people to Heartburn Health was part of the approval by the HRA. The HRA provided section 251 support based on advice from the Confidentiality Advisory Group (CAG). The CAG is an independent body who provide expert advice on the use of confidential patient information.

The programme has also been reviewed and supported by members of the public with heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux. We collected views and feedback from over 300 members of the public on our invitation plan and the use of patient data.
